Bordeaux fine wine, the next must-have accessory for Chinese HNWI
The Financial Times (FT) has once again confirmed the prestigious status fine wine enjoys in the Chinese market. Fine wine domains such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild are perceived by Chinese consumers as ‘items’ to buy to communicate success.
According to Ch’ng Poh Tiong, a wine columnist and publisher of The Wine Review, “Chinese people are very aspirational and materialistic so once they have bought the best local brand then they start looking for something even better and more expensive”.
Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothschild clearly understood the importance of the Chinese market. Lafite has incorporated the Chinese character of the number “8” on the bottle of his 2008 vintage and Mouton commissioned the label for its 2008 vintage from a Chinese artist.
