BI Investment-Grade 100 is the index which tracks the performance of the most traded First and Second growths Bordeaux. The Index constituents are rated 95 to 100 from Robert Parker. The index contains also equivalent blue-chips and investment-grade wines in the right bank. The index does not include En Primeur wines to reduce volatility which typically characterises the wine future market at its very stage release. Valuations are compiled internally (i.e. by Boltons Investments Ltd) and take closing prices in the last business day of the month. (Last rebased in 07/2011).
BI Blue Chip Index:

The Index constituents are only rated from 95 to 100 from Robert Parker. The index does not include En Primeur wines to reduce volatility which typically characterises the wine future market at its very stage of release. Valuations are compiled internally and take closing prices in the last business day of the month. (Last rebased in 07/2011).
En Primeur wine:
En Primeur wines (future contract) are investment-grade wines purchased at a predetermined price before the wine has been bottled and distributed on to the secondary market. The effectiveness of future investment is based on the opportunity to buy on the primary market when prices are still at their lowest levels and to sell on the secondary market to maximise returns when wine prices reach their peak.

General Wine Index (GWI) is an index developed and used by Philippe Masset and Jean-Philippe Weisskopf in their analysis of fine wine investment covering the period 1996 - 2008:"Raise your glass: Wine Investment and the Financial Crisis", February 2010. The index includes vintages from 1981 to 2005 of the most traded wines mainly originating from France (Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Rhone Valley), Italy and the United States.
